What We Collect

We collect information in three main ways: (a) what you provide, (b) what we collect automatically, and (c) what we receive from payment processors.

A. Information You Provide

  • Account information: email, password (stored in hashed form), and any profile settings you add
  • User content: recipe URLs you save, full recipes you paste, notes, tags, shopping lists, and other content you submit
  • Support messages: information you send us when you contact support

B. Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage data: pages/screens viewed, features used, actions taken (e.g., saving recipes), and error logs
  • Device and technical data: IP address, browser type, device identifiers, operating system, approximate location derived from IP
  • Cookies and similar technologies: see our Cookie Policy

C. Payments (Stripe)

When you subscribe, payments are processed by Stripe. We generally receive:

  • Subscription status (active/cancelled), plan type, renewal dates
  • Limited billing details (e.g., last 4 digits of card, card brand), but we do not store full card numbers
  • Stripe may collect information about your device and interaction with our checkout page to prevent fraud, even if you do not complete a transaction

Stripe collects and processes payment information under its own privacy policy which can be found in the Stripe Privacy Center.

How We Use Your Information

We use personal information to:

  • Provide and operate the Service (accounts, saved recipes, shopping lists)
  • Process subscriptions and manage billing (via Stripe)
  • Improve and maintain the Service (debugging, analytics, performance)
  • Communicate with you (service notices, billing messages, support)
  • Protect the Service (fraud prevention, abuse detection, security)
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service
  • To detect, prevent, and mitigate fraud, financial loss, and other harmful activities through our payment processor, Stripe

Legal Basis / Consent

We generally collect, use, and disclose personal information with your consent, as permitted under BC PIPA and other applicable laws. You can withdraw consent in some cases (see "Your Rights"), but doing so may limit your ability to use the Service.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information and user content is also not used to train global AI models.

We share information only as needed:

  • Service providers (processors): hosting, database, analytics, email delivery, logging/monitoring, and customer support tools that help us run the Service
  • Stripe: to process payments and manage subscriptions
  • Legal and safety reasons: if required to comply with law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, and security
  • Business changes: if Orange Tree is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction (subject to appropriate safeguards)

International Transfers
